, a christmas surprise no one wished for. a tornado caught on video as it touched down right this city center. emergency management officials say the twister left lots of damage in its wake blowing out first and second floor windows at the mobile infirmary medical center and the roof at the high school. so far no injuries or death, but wit trees and power lines down tens of thousands are without electricity. one store sent customers scrambling for cover. >> one customer looked out the window and said there's actually a tornado coming. i looked out and you could see the sparks flying and debris flying around. i got everybody together, about seven customers. everybody huddle around we need to go to the back. >> i probably hurt my baby grabbing her and huddling for protection. there was no time. >> reporter: it was a massive storm system that stretched across the nation. earlier a tornado touched down in mcneil, mississippi and several people suffered minor injuries. in texas, one near crockett decide to livestock feed store and high winds toppled trees killing a driver trying to remove another

that shut down interstate 40 joust outside oklahoma city. texas got a double dose of bad weather, a 25-year-old man was killed near houston after a tree fell on his pickup. snow covered the ground in long view and turned dallas into a winter wonderland and blizzard warnings stretched from arkansas to pennsylvania. turning to mobile, alabama, windows were shattered and cars tossed off streets as this tornado touched down. >> oh my god, we need to go. it's right there. >> that's scary. several buildings damaged and several car accidents were blamed on the storm but no reports of serious injuries. emergency management officials tell cnn power has been restored to many customers, just over 7,000 in the dark, down from 23,000 last night. we head to mobile, christina leavenworth of w.e.a.r. in just about an hour weather officials will assess damage. christina, what are you hearing so far? >> reporter: good morning, carol. we are seeing a lot of damage here and it's widespread. the national weather service is saying the tornado touched down in five different locations, one of them here at murphy h

'll keep our fingers crossed. thank you, dillon. folks outside the upstate new york city of rochester are still in shock in morning after a twisted holiday tragedy that will left two firefighters dead and two others hospitalized christmas eve. chris pallone has this one. >> reporter: a sleepy vacation community northeast of rochester, new york, is in shock after a gunman lured firefighters to a neighborhood and shot them. investigators in webster, new york, say four firpths responded to reports of a house and car on fire around 5:30 monday morning. two in a fire truck, two others in their own cars. >> it appears that it was a trap, that there was a car and a house that were engulfed in flame. >> one of the men was able to retreat to safety after being s.w.a.t. a s.w.a.t. team in an armored vehicle retrieved the other three. toe tas kaczowka and mike chiapperini were dead. police evacuated at least 30 people from the area and seven homes were damaged or destroyed. the shooter was found shot dead near the scene. police say he killed himself identified as william spengler, a man with a l

in the city of about 200,000. >> oh, wow! check that tornado out. it's been on the ground now for over a minute. >> reporter: the christmas day tornado damaged buildings, brought down trees, power lines and ripped through the wall of this church. workers in the area describe the scary moments. >> praying for everybody and everyone was kind of like in panic mode. >> reporter: earlier in the day, dramatic storm chaser video captured the scene in mcneill, mississippi. in texas at least three reported tornadoes touched down across the state tuesday. witnesses say the tornado the size of two football fields passed through an area about 100 miles north of houston. snow is also causing problems in areas unaccustomed to seeing a white christmas. dallas got hit with a rare snowfall, which made for dangerous driving conditions on the roadways. >> it's a mess. it's scary. >> reporter: a similar scene in lubbock, texas. crews were on the scene at this accident. in the houston area, strong winds toppled this tree on to a pickup truck, killing the driver. this morning, the huge winter system is on t

battles across syria. we're also learning about a car bombing in the city of homs and a horrible, horrible discovery. dozens of bodies believed to be victims of a massacre. the same time rebel fighters, they are taking on syrian forces literally house to house in the country's largest city. that is aleppo, and that is where we find our arwa damon today. >> reporter: for two months the streets here have been a war zone. part of a bigger battle for control of aleppo, syria's largest city. this father of four is one of the rebel fighters here. this is our country, our homes that are being destroyed, he tells us. he used to sell thread. now he runs logistics for his unit. so what he is explaining to us is that this was street to street fighting, and it took his unit quite some time to advance and right now they have the tractor here because they're trying to clear out this road so that ambulances and vehicles can begin to move through. >> blankets hang across one alleyway to block government snipers' line of sight. the shooting is coming from there, the sniper, one of the fighters points out.
